The first KISS Album released by the 4 kaboki makeup wearing individuals that makes up the band KISS. Paul Stanley on Guitar, Gene Simmons on Bass, Ace Frehley on lead guitar, and rounding it out with Peter Criss on drums. The cover of the album peaked the interest of younger kids, and rebellious teenager and young adults alike. The music, of which only took about 3 weeks to record, was raw and powerful. With no radio airplay, the band was still able to sell 75,000 copies after its release on February 8, 1974. Was certified Gold 4 years and 4 months to the day of this release.
Release Date Conflicts
There seems to be an issue on when the first KISS album was actually released. Following, are a list of the dates that are circulating. Not only online, but in publications as well.
February 8, 1974 (This is the date that is in the Library Of Congress)
February 12, 1974 (This could possibly be the date for East Coast Release)
February 18, 1974 (Casablanca held a showcase for the Album release. This date is also the date that a lot sites, including Wikipedia, Necramonium«, and billboard.com« and others claim that the album was released on this date.)
February 21, 1974 (According to the KISS boxset book (on nothin to lose & Black Diamond), the Release date was on this date.) And from: kissfaq Forum« KISStory states the date as Feb 21st 1974 - the day KISS had waited for, the release of their 1st lp
So, as you can tell, there is a lot of discussion on the actual date of release for this album. Which is to be expected, and I think that KISS like it that way.
