With KISS booked as a last-minute addition to the Academy Of Music's New Year's Eve concert, original KISS managers Bill Aucoin and Joyce Biawitz rented out the Fillmore East (now renamed Village East) as a rehearsal space for KISS to get ready for their "debut." Photographer Bob Gruen photographed a staged moment with KISS, Bill Aucoin & Joyce Biawitz, and Casablanca Records president Neil Bogart (in make-up, handcuffed to KISS' record contract) backstage.
(You can view the images 1, 3, 4,7,8 below, of which show Neil with the handcuffs on.)
KISS rehearsed at the Fillmore from December 26-December 30, under the watchful eye of Sean Delaney. This would be the first of three shows KISS would do where Paul Stanley had switched from the Star make-up to a design most fans refer to as The Bandit. Despite myths, this was done on request of Neil Bogart to get Paul to look more in line with the other three members of the band, who all had make-up around both eyes.
